Glittering Start to 2024 for Waters

By Ebony McQuinn.

Cameron Waters has come home in 4th at Premier Speedway for the final round of Speedweek. The team had been hard at work finding any extra speed in the car after disappointing ends to the last two events.

Out of the gate, Waters had returned to his usual form, recording his fastest-ever lap at Premier Speedway during time trials. Clocking in at 10.498s, Waters, unfortunately, was marginally shy of Quick Time winner, Lachie McHugh, who was only 0.02 faster.

Happy with the performance, minimal changes were made heading into the heat. A reverse top 8 grid meant Waters was to start out of 7. 5 laps in, Water had moved up to 4th; where he remained for the final 5 laps.

Solid results so far saw Waters make it into the first part of the A-Main top-10 shootout. It's only the second time in his sprintcar career that he has made it to the shootout, the first only last week at Simpson.

Unfortunately, the field was too quick for Waters in the shootout; dropping one spot to finish 4th in the semi-shootout and to start out of 8 in the A-Main.

A slow start to the feature with Waters dropping back into 11th. Staying in 11th until before a stoppage with 8 laps to go, race leader McHugh hitting the wall. On the restart Waters and the car seemed to click as he made an incredible recovery, moving up 7 spots to 4th before crossing the finish line.

Driver's Quote:

"We had a great night at Premier Speedway last night. We ended up 2nd in time trials which put us out of 7th in our heat.

I managed to get up to 4th which locked us straight into the A main. We started 8th and struggled a little early in the race but the track came to us halfway through and I managed to bring it home in 4th. A massive thank you to the team and our sponsors. The car was great all night and I’m pumped for Toowoomba."
